Profile - 3 Star Private

Introduction

The rank of Private is the entry level rank for enlisted personnel. It is the first step on the career path to more senior ranks such as Corporal, Sergeant, Company Sergeant and Sergeant Major. Although Junior Certificate education would be regarded as the minimum requirement for the role of Private 3 Star, Leaving Certificate would be regarded as desirable given the ongoing learning requirements of the role. Experience is a significant factor in the role with 1 to 3 years being required to reach a level of competence. During this time, the Private is engaged in significant skills training and would be expected to both apply and understand procedures within their work area, in addition to providing guidance on specific skill areas to those less experienced.
